Thanks @jbyoung12 for his PR fixing a bug in the Straude CLI where Smart Sync never re-fetches last_push_date, so usage accumulated after the last push that day is lost. Let's say you push $30 of usage at noon and keep working until you hit $50 spend on the day, but don't push again that day. When you push the next day, Smart Sync will update yesterday's usage to the latest amount ($50).
Pro tip: You can also use the --days flag to backfill up to the last 7 days. We limit it to 7 days because we don't want people to jump to the top of the leaderboard in one push. We want to follow along with your daily progress! Make every session count.
Prototyped two new ideas: Earmark & Writing Gym. Trying out Symphony and autoresearch.
Small things:
Startups.RIP kinda went mega-viral. up to 175K total visitors. cool to see ppl from different countries making videos on it, all sharing organically: in India, US, Ukraine, Vietnam
light clean-up day:
Was not expecting this to blow up as much as it did, still trying to process & understand how it happened. Estimate across ~700 posts about the project there was a combined 1M+ impressions -> 100K website hits.
We didn't market it at all, a random guy on X (not that many followers) tweeted it "Someone built...", it got picked up by X trending and snowballed from there. Clearly hit a nerve in the zeitgeist. Unfortunately spent most of the day in triage mode as a result: fixing bugs, responding to inbound, etc. but it was worth it to experience going semi-viral 🙈 Hope to get back more Deep Work (& writing) time tmr 🙏
For Straude: fixed a gnarly onboarding bug that made some new users the last 2 days invisible, sent an apology email 😵, shipped some quality of life improvements (many suggested by @jilijeanlouis like adding photo & file attachments to DMs, thanks!). Fixed CLI bug for Windows users. Added Japanese market launch plan.
Hit ⌘ + K and search "Dark theme" voila!
Oh and shipped a new IG Reel / TikTok w/ @markmdev & @java Check it out! Brand new to short-form content, learning...
Any guesses what my next project will be?
out touching grass today, nice long thinking walk. if the watch could take photos, I think I'd do more phone-free days
came back to a nice surprise of startups.rip going viral on X, 115K views & counting... people like successes, but they love failures
what other coding agents are you guys using besides cc & codex? @jilijeanlouis suggested adding support for Gemini, Qwen Code, and Mistral Vibe
about to launch a video tmr in which I look rly stupid 😵
kitchen hack: put some gochujang on cheese & bake in the oven = delicious cheese crisps!
click the invite link on the right to invite your friends, coworkers, collaborators! what should the reward be for referrals? open to ideas!
anyone know folks @ claude or codex who'd be interested in sponsoring prizes for builders topping the leaderboard?
small improvements: new preview image, fixed streak calculation on leaderboard, fixed codex fallback for non-cc users, PWA support, metadata audit
per @jilijeanlouis request, added threaded comments and simple DMs to Straude. thx for suggesting (& the kind shoutout on X)!
@markmdev has switched over to the dark side (codex) and released Waypoint -- check it out!
@keon wants to know how ppl at the top of the leaderboard are using so many tokens 😂 @darthshadow @markmdev @sqb @jayz @kevinastuhuaman want to leak some alpha?
TIL the coding agent companies are subsidising cost of compute for power users at a ratio of ~25:1
also revamped the share button (image + link). it's pretty cluttered right now, will sand it down later
hey @ohong you should enable people to backfill historical spending not only last 7 days come on!
I'm curious how's everyone setting up their coding agents to do long-horizon jobs? Hours, even days of work with minimal human-in-the-loop.
Anthropic published an interesting blog post on how they did it
Anyone doing their own cottage industry version of this? How are you getting agents to run when you're away from your computer?
many new folks joining us! the goal of straude is to make the experience of agentic engineering more social & fun. share here if you've got any ideas on we could do that 🤗
just some light codebase housekeeping today, mostly focused on growth
Straude: added multi-device support (now sums usage across devices), fixed cli claude code vs. codex parsing (counting cached tokens when we shouldn't have), simplified cli commands (merging sync & push, do the same thing w/ flags), add post nudges to motivate users to add descriptions, images, etc.
Started a new simple bookmark manager w/ Superhuman-like speed & keyboard shortcuts 👀 Lmk if you bookmark stuff on X and wish you had a better way to revisit them.
Anyone want to buy an Nvidia RTX 5090 or 5080? 😂
BTW @ohong => can you add DM into straude + reaction to comments + comment threads (a bit like youtube) to be able to fork conversations in comments ?
love this
check the button on the bottom-right of the page.
also opened up Discussions on GitHub, pls share your best ideas with us: https://github.com/ohong/straude/discussions
what's everyone building today?
day 20 🔥 testing out codex today! works pretty well, good to see healthy competition in ai coding
you'll notice a new "Submit a prompt" button at the bottom-right of Straude. If you've got any ideas on how to make straude better (I'm sure you do), feel free to add a prompt there. we'll run the good ones and merge into main. think of it like a lightweight PR, but you don't have to write any code. you can still always just dm or text me, ofc :)
interesting to see more ppl bookmarking my tweet than liking it. why? what's the best bookmark manager for X?
nice ☀️ day, so mostly out & distracted today, didn't do much coding, but that's ok. got overdue haircut w/ my bald iraqi barber
trying a new landing page for straude.com, what do you think?
integrated our #1 requested feature, codex support, with the help of @alexesprit bug report. thx for suggesting! @sidpagariya @sqb @ryoppippi
cli optimisations to bring down latency like parallelising subprocesses, pinning ccusage version to prevent registry roundtrip, PATH scan, etc.
hello if you're here from the autonomous agents hackathon 👋 it was amazing to see so many of you stoked about straude. hackathons are rly the perfect launchpad for trying anything new!
ended the week with my fav bourbon 🥃
the landing looks really cool!
@alexesprit thanks! I think the next step is to figure out how to get ppl to push their usage stats after signing up. there's still a big drop-off btw sign up & 1st session logged. maybe messaging & onboarding flow improvements 🤔
light on coding, onboarded users. met the wonderful team at reducto ( @tboser @sidpagariya @aditabraham & others). they told me alvin on their team is ripping $4k a month on claude code, wtf is he doing?!? this picture was his reaction
sid in particular was psych'd about straude, even though he doesn't use claude much himself. he told me we should add codex & opencode support. he's a big fan of gitbutler and showed me how it works. thx sid for the great feedback (& onboarding video)!
nice chat with thomas on why there hasn't been a breakout ai product with strong network effects -- chatgpt, cursor, openclaw, nano banana, etc. all work just as well for me whether or not you use it. whereas linkedin & strava have such strong moats because other ppl are on it.
we went to jeson's soft opening (6k sq ft builder workshop in the mission), then walked to billiards night hosted by delve/gumloop/reducto. met someone who does "attention coaching" i.e. she works 1-on-1 with clients to help them quit phone addition and regain the ability to focus. naturally, tiktok is her top-of-funnel so a lot of her time is spent making tiktoks 😂 modern problems call for modern solutions. opportunity is everywhere.
apoorva (instacart founder/ceo) wants his team to hit 3B tokens/day/team member by end of q2. founder-led companies like coinbase, shopify, ramp, resend are all sprinting on this 🤔
it was so great to meet you! lovely having you at the office 😄🙌
we're live! would appreciate your support amplifying 🙏
handed off to alessandro, going to sleep now. can't think.
fun day working out of firecrawl sf office! great desk + monitor, very productive
oops overspent claude api calls 😬 then made some content
getting new project launch-ready, super exciting!
@jayz tells me we're missing out on users by not making straude things more shareable, made profiles & leaderboard viewable by logged out users. will add og preview images next. thx for the feedback 🙌
also need to figure out activation... too many users sign up but never straude push
Great to onboard @ryoppippi to Straude. Ryo created the very popular ccusage (11+ GH stars), which powers Straude under the hood!
In other news, we now have Achievements (check /u/{username} to see it on your profile!) thanks to the one-and-only @alexesprit 🏎️
Appreciated the thoughtful suggestions from @keon @ahmet_dedeler @jbyoung12 and many others. A great day.
Woke up 10th on HackerNews. Have you ever had 100+ ppl dunk on you by 7am? 🤣
Made some changes to Straude. Got great contributions from @alexesprit 🙌 Love this community!
At night, kept working on startups.rip It took some fiddling around, but the Deep Research agent is really starting to impress me. Sonnet 4.6 FTW
Last pic is w/ @java @ MongoDB 😎
The only concern I have that one could just automate and never open the web app itself (e.g. for post edit the post or see other contributions).
I see, yeah ideally we'd want to motivate users to check the app so they see the feed, get inspired, connect w/ others. but ofc running the same command daily can be annoying. will think more :)
Actually was $84.67, but lost track of time & forgot to push before midnight. Is this a good system? Open to feedback!
Cooking up something new 👨🍳 startups.rip
Met a guy today with these AR glasses that show his computer screen like monitors projected on walls & ceilings. He claudemaxxes lying in bed prompting Claude with voice. Ship his best ideas in the minutes before falling asleep. Always fun talking to Straude users!
Some of you told me you wanted to push to Straude multiple times a day as you rack up usage. Make sense, but we also don't want to clog up the timeline.
Now you can push as many times as you'd like in a day, it just updates your post (& leaderboard) with the latest usage, but keeping to just one post a day. No double-counting ofc.
In other news, I had a great time celebrating the soft launch of Straude at Claude Code's 1st birthday party 🥳 Then judged the DeepMind hackathon w/ @markmdev 🏎️
Regarding achievement - I have a few ideas actually, noted them when I was exploring the Straude source code. Do you accept PRs? What's the best way to contribute?
yes pls do open a PR! need all the help we can get building this. feel free to also shoot me a dm (@oscrhong on X) would love to chat, pick your brain on how to make this great 🙏
